Shanghai French School is seeking a Library Assistant to support the Primary School library. Based at Yangpu campus, the role contributes to managing library resources and supporting students in their educational and cultural use of materials.

Shanghai French School welcomes students aged 2 to 18, from kindergarten to the Baccalaureate, across its two campuses in Qingpu and Yangpu. An international and multilingual school, accredited by the French Ministry of National Education and part of the AEFE network, it provides high-quality education to over 1,530 students from 60 nationalities.



Your Role 

In collaboration with the library teacher and the educational team, your main responsibilities focus on student support, management of library resources, and assistance with pedagogical activities. Your responsibilities include:

1. Student Support and Supervision

  • Welcome, guide, and inform primary school students about the library resources and procedures.
  • Supervise and assist students during their consultations of documents.
  • Monitor the use of computers and ensure proper use of digital resources.

2. Resource and Loan Management

  • Assist with lending and returning documents for students and teachers.
  • Manage textbooks (distribution, tracking, collection).
  • Handle the physical processing of materials: labeling, stamping, repairs.
  • Contribute to inventory management and weeding of collections.

3. Pedagogical Support and Projects

  • Support the Teacher-Librarian in implementing educational and cultural projects.
  • Welcome classes and assist teachers during library instructional sessions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to guide students in research and information literacy.







Your Profile 

We are looking for a motivated professional with solid experience in a similar or administrative role. The ideal candidate will have:  

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Bac +3) and at least 2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Bilingual French-English or French-Chinese proficiency;
  • Knowledge and application of classification rules and basic library/documentation techniques (cataloging, indexing…);
  • Proficiency with library management software, preferably BCDI and Follett;
  • Ability to welcome and manage student groups;
  • An interest for literature and ability to contribute to book and subscription acquisitions;
  • Ability to ensure compliance library rules;
  • Strong communication skills and active listening; 


The position is based at Yangpu campus.
